What can it be? The measurements of the costume or the customizing options? Well, today, let's take a look at the different types of mermaid swim fins in Canada.

Depending on the length and shape of the blade, swim and diving fins are designed. As per that, it produces varying amounts of propulsion. Some fins are great for long, flowing kicks. It pushes the swimmers forward irrespective of the motion. There are others that offer little thrust and lots of resistance, perfect for strength training. It all comes down to what you need the fins to do for you.

While some of you might fantasize about using mermaid fins, others might develop the urge to explore more like SCUBA diving! But while under the water, the process is same. No matter whatever fins you chose, ultimately you need to kick one way or the other.

So, the below list will guide and educate you on how to use different types of fins. The descriptions will help you know what you should do when in the water. In case you desire to buy other fins apart from mermaid swim fins in Canada, you can get them both online or offline.

           1. Long Length Fins

When you think of fins, something like a long length fin is usually the first thing that comes to mind. These fins help displace a large amount of water with minimal effort and are thus perfect for diving. Unlike training fins that need short, fast kicks, long length fins or paddle fins, help swimmers conserve energy and oxygen usage. This is especially important for SCUBA divers who have to monitor their air intake.

In a Nutshell: Long bladed fins lengthen the legs' natural lever in the water. Hence, the fluid kicking motion pushes swimmers through the water without much effort.

          2. Split or Channel Fins

Fins that feature medium length blades with a split running down the middle are considered split fins. Its unique design allows swimmers to kick through the water with a good amount of propulsion while reducing drag. The splits in the middle of the blade help channel water and help move forward no matter the kind of kick.

In a Nutshell: These fins are great for recreational use and perfect for junior swimmers. Their design helps alleviate ankle fatigue and can stay comfortable for hours.
          3. Short Bladed or Compact Fins

Short bladed fins are the fin of choice for fitness and competitive swimmers. These types of fins are shaped just like long bladed fins, except in a much more compact form. The rubber used to produce short fins is often stiffer than other counterparts. Now, unlike the split ones, these fins don't generate the same powerful forward propulsion. But, what it helps with is strength and speed training.

In a Nutshell: It's shorter than usual design doesn't rely on the long lever properties to produce propulsion. Instead, they promote faster and shorter kicks to develop essential leg muscles. They are great for cardio workouts and used by high-level swimmers everywhere.

          4. Mono-shaped Fins

Monofins are the most common type that goes perfectly with mermaid costumes. Designed to look like a dolphin or mermaid tail, this model fuses two medium length blades together. It keeps the swimmer's feet together and requires an undulating motion to propel forward. Its design helps push swimmers to move ahead with both the up and downward kick. With both feet together, monofins can produce a great deal of propulsion.

In a Nutshell: Monofins are great for working on body alignment and the dolphin kick. It can help you master your skills in the pool preparing you to take more challenges!

8 tips for caring your mermaid tails for kids

You might have discovered the new trend of mermaiding. But along with it comes some challenges for you to keep up. Caring your mermaid tails is a challenge, and that's where this post is going to help you.

Tips for caring mermaid tails for kids

1.   Firstly, with a monofin inside, the tail is quite long and large. Well, when it's dry, you might not find it difficult to carry it to the pool. But when it's wet and water-logged, it is heavy and moving it is sometimes awkward. So the first thing you need is a rather large, waterproof tote for your tail.

Pro Tip: It must also be big enough that you can put in your towel, swimsuit, water bottle, goggles, etc.

2.   Finding such a large-size tote can be another challenge. You can try the thrift store for waterproof bags and totes, as well as swim and dive stores. A plastic one would be perfect. Also, you could use one made of thick canvas, if you want the tail to drip out before placing it in the tote.

Pro Tip: Make sure to dry the bag out entirely after unpacking it at home.

3.   Handling a mermaid costume that's wet can be messy as well. To minimize it, drape the tail over a pool chair, and let it dry out as long as possible.

Pro Tip: While going home, you can wrap a towel around the tail to minimize dripping, if necessary.

4.   Most mermaid tails are made out of regular spandex swimsuit material. But the better-quality ones are made from neoprene or silicone-latex rubber (with neoprene inside). No matter whatever you buy, caring all three types of tails is the same.

5.   Like with any other swimsuits, the tails last longer as well, if you rinse the fabric after each use. It's better if you can rinse it under a shower head at the pool or the beach. The longer you leave the salt water accumulated in the mermaid tails for kids, higher are the chances of degradation.

6.   If rinsing is not possible at the venue, head back home and rinse the tails first. Use the shower or the bathtub and drape it on the edge of the tub so that it can drip out for some time.

Pro Tip: Once done with the dripping, lay the tail flat on towels, a clean rug or a drying rack, and let it finish drying.

7.   You might remove the monofin each time, but that's unnecessary work. Simply drape the tail to drip dry, then let it dry on a flat surface. The drying process might take around 18-24 hours.

Pro Tip: Don't hang it up by the waist. The weight of the monofin might stretch the material. Drying it flat or draping it on a drying rack is the best way.

8.   With neoprene tails, you want the foam inside to dry completely. If there is a zipper, unzip it. Remove the monofin, and leave it to dry inside out. If there is no zipper, air-dry it. Check it after several hours to ensure the monofin is drying thoroughly. You don't want mold to develop there!

Pro Tip: If needed, point a hair-dryer into the tail to make sure that the inside gets dried.

Note: You will find that both silicone-latex rubber and neoprene tails dry quicker than the spandex tails.

Advice: Never, dip your mermaid tails for kids into hot water. If you want to wash it with detergent, use a gentle soap. Hand-wash it in a bathtub and rinse it in cold water.

Finally,

Once you finish with the rinsing and drying, you will find it is easy to wrap the length of the tail around the monofin and store it on its side or laid flat in a drawer. Keep the above tips in mind, and you can enjoy having your favorite mermaid costume in your possession for long.
Happy swimming!
